Florida Area Code 448

The North-Western part of Florida, also known as the Florida Panhandle, with cities like Pensacola or the state capital Tallahassee, is currently served by area code 850. Starting next year, residents of the 18 counties covered by NPA 850 will start using a second area code 448 announced at the end of 2019. Local calls will be dialed using 10 digits.

Key dates

• August 22, 2020 - 7/10 digit permissive dialing period begins (850 area code local calls may be dialed using both 7 and 10 digits)
• May 22, 2021 - mandatory 10 digit dialing begins
• June 22, 2021 - new area code 448 enters service
