New York residents living in the westernmost part of the state and currently using area code 716 will, about one year from now, start using a second area code. The new 624 Numbering Plan Area will be overlaid on the existing 716 NPA, covering the same geographic locations as is the case with all recent NPA relief methods. Some towns and cities served by NPA 716: Amherst, Buffalo, Fredonia, Jamestown, Niagara Falls or Tonawanda.
The current dialing plan in this area requires 10 digits for local and toll calls within NPA 716 and 1+10 digits for local and toll calls to foreign NPAs. With the introduction of the new 624 area code on November 16, 2023, 10 digit dialing will also be used for calls between the two overlaying NPAs 716 and 624.
