Area code 970 covers roughly the northwestern half of the state of Colorado, serving towns and cities like Aspen, Breckenridge, Fort Collins, Grand Junction or Loveland. Recently, the Colorado Public Utilities Commission announced an overlay NPA for this area. The new Numbering Plan Area Code 748 will, as of July next year, become Colorado's 32nd active area code.
Currently, the dialing plan for this part of Colorado is: 10 digits for local calls and 1+10 digits for toll calls; no changes in the way calls are dialed will be applied with the activation of the new area code 748 on July 7, 2025.
