A new relief plan was announced on May 10, 2023 for the city of Toronto's overlaying Numbering Plan Areas 416/647/437. With the city nearing exhaustion of allocated telephone numbers, the new area code 942 will be added to the aforementioned overlay complex on April 26, 2025. No change in the way people residing in Toronto dial calls will take place when the new area code 942 enters service.
